Research

Research is performed by experimental as well as theoretical approaches. The main topics are in the field of materials and functions/applications and are classified into several sub-categories:

 Materials: Functions and Applications:
 Metallic/magneticElectronic devices
 Semiconducting/ceramicBio/medical application
 Biological/organicCatalysts

The material classes are ranging from metallic and magnetic materials, e.g. metallic nanostructures or growth and segregation in Ni alloys, semiconducting and ceramic materials, as examples are mentioned nanocrystalline semiconductors as nanoporous Silicon or structured semiconductors with quantum effects, to biological/organic material systems as organometallic hybrid materials, biopolymers or molecular motors.

In the field of functions and applications, electronic devices should be noted e.g. organic thin film transistors, nanosensors, nanophotonics and spintronics. In the biomedical field, biosensors, surface functionalisation, biocompatibility of implant materials, drug carriers and a protein micro chip are developed. Catalysts are one important factor and essential in many process techniques. In the frame of nanoTUM various noble metal catalysts and metal clusters are studied. Additionally, the reactive behaviour of nanostructured catalysts will be characterised.
